Keith Summey Proud To Serve N. Charleston

Mayor Keith Summey has presided over the city of North Charleston for the past fourteen years. He took office in late 1994 when former Mayor Bobby Kinard resigned and at a time when the city was facing troubled times. There was political unrest in City Hall, the city's population was shrinking due to the Navy Base closing, and crime was on the rise. As Summey puts it, "North Charleston was considered a nice place to work and shop, but when you were done you went back to your bedroom communities outside the city limits." Full Story |

The Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities (LAMC) has been working hard toward improving the quality of lives for residents in their neighborhoods. LAMC recently hosted a series of seven public workshops to create a community vision for seven neighborhoods in North Charleston’s Neck area from April 16 – April 18 generating optimism and excitement about the area’s future. Approximately 150 residents, business and property owners, and agency representatives attended the three day workshops. Full Story

| Two phrases that most of the time don’t go together are fine dining and fair prices. They are usually as alien to each other as the north is to the south. But in the case of Neil Jordan’s Restaurant they seem to complement one another perfectly. The upscale steak and seafood eatery opened in late 2008 just north of Hwy 41 in the Market at Oakland off 17 North and has become a regular dining spot for many East Cooper residents. | In a little over a year since they’ve opened Crushed Fine Wine has become one of the low country’s most talked about vintners. The quaint little wine shop conveniently located outside the I’ON community between Johnnie Dodds and Mathis Ferry in Shelmore Village Mount Pleasant has become a favorite especially for low country residents living east of the Cooper. Greenbelt Projects: Application Opens for Rural and Urban Grants

| Charleston County's Comprehensive Greenbelt Plan provides guidance for spending the greenbelt portion of the Transportation Sales Tax through both an Urban Grants Program and a Rural Grants Program. The purpose of these grants is to distribute the funding in an equitable manner for the conservation of greenspace in Charleston County. The application deadline for rural and urban greenbelt grant projects is Friday, July 31, 2009. Full Story |
